Instructor of AIT attends international symposium

On April 26-28, 2019, Asaf Ganbarov, Senior Teacher of the Department of Religious Studies at Azerbaijan Institute of Theology (AIT), attended an international symposium on Culture of Critique and Tolerance in Islamic Thought held in Mush,Turkey.

More than 120 researchers delivered speeches at the symposium organized by the Mush Alparslan University. The speeches mainly covered the culture of academic critique, tolerance tradition and radicalism in the history of Islamic thought.

A.Ganbarov delivered a speech on Islamic Fundamentalism: Myth or Reality. Comparing the concept of Islamic fundamentalism to evangelical fundamentalism, the speaker demonstrated the different and common features of these concepts and analyzed the causes and basic points. He emphasized that most ideologies and theological causes of Islamic fundamentalism have been criticized by many researchers. He noted that naming Islamic religious movements with political activities as political Islam or religious activism is more appropriate.

Discussions were held around the speech and questions were responded.

The academic staff of AIT regularly attends at local and international symposiums and conferences.
