Symposium Attendees visit Icherisheher (Old City) State Historical-Architectural Reserve

The attendees of the 2nd International Symposium on Islamic Civilization in Caucasia visited Icheri sheher (Old City) State Historical-Architectural Reserve.

During a walk from the Gosha Gala Street, the guests were informed about historical buildings, squares and fortress walls. The guests watched artistic samples of religious-architectural complex with arcade (Bazar Square) belonging to different periods. During the acquaintance with Caravansara it was noted that these monuments prove that Azerbaijan had rich historical and economic-cultural relations with eastern countries.

The attendees of the 2nd International Symposium visited Ashur Mosque founded by Najaf Ashur son of Ibrahim in 1169 and nearby Juma mosque. The minaret of Absheron dating back to the 15th century which was built from limestone was restored in 2016.

Historical and architectural monuments reflecting religious culture of Old City have influenced the social development of the local people. Thus, mosques played an important role in the development of the science and education system in the Middle Ages. Religious monuments located in the area differ for their architectural structure.

At the end, the attendees of the International Symposium were photographed in front of the Maiden Tower.

The 2nd International Symposium on Islamic Civilization in Caucasia was held in the capital of Azerbaijan on July 11-12, 2019. More than 100 foreign scholars, researchers and experts on Islamic civilization in Caucasia delivered speeches at the symposium.
