AIT signed a Memorandum with IRCICA for International Symposium on Islamic Civilization in the Caucasus

Dr. Halit Eren, Director General of IRCICA which started its activity as the subsidiary organ of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) concerned with culture, visited Azerbaijan Institute of Theology.

AIT rector Jeyhun Mammadov expressed his gratitude to Dr. Halit Eren for his visit and emphasized that the visit will contribute to the development of relations between two institutions. The Rector noted that the state-religion relations formed by national leader Heydar Aliyev is successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev. Jeyhun Mammadov expressed his gratitude to the guest for his support in the organization of the International Symposium on Islamic Civilization in the Caucasus.

Dr. Halit Eren, IRCICA Director General, emphasized that the establishment of AIT is an important step in the field of religious education. Speaking highly of the AIT goals and objectives, Dr. Halit Eren wished success to the Institute in its further activities.

The parties further signed Memorandum of Understanding.

The document reflects statements about the organization of the International Symposium on Islamic Civilization in the Caucasus that will be held on July 11-12, 2019.
The International Symposium on Islamic Civilization in the Caucasus will be held with the joint organization of Research Center For Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA), Azerbaijan Institute of Theology and Institute of Oriental Studies of ANAS on July 11-12, 2019.

The symposium will cover the discussion of the topics such as Heydar Aliyev’s role in the development of Islamic traditions in Azerbaijan and relations with Muslim countries, The role of Heydar Aliyev Foundation in the restoration and repair of religious and historical monuments and President Ilham Aliyev’s role in the development of tolerance and multiculturalism traditions in Azerbaijan. Apart from the above mentioned topics, the symposium agenda includes the topics such as The spread of Islam in the Caucasus; Islamic civilization in the Caucasus as a research area: Methodological issues, historical sources, documents and artefacts, academic cooperation; Islamic policy of Tzar Russia in the Caucasus; The influence of Islamic Culture on the traditions of the peoples in the Caucasus; Islamic architecture in the Caucasus; Islamic art and literature in the Caucasus; The role of mosques and madrasahs in the religious education of the Caucasus; The development of Islamic studies in the Caucasus; Different aspects of religious, social and cultural life in the Caucasus (social groups, holidays/significant days) and Destroyed historical and cultural heritage in the Azerbaijani regions occupied by Armenians: Researches in the direction of preservation and promotion of this heritage in the world.
