Azerbaijan Institute of Theology visited Red Settlement

The delegation of Azerbaijan Institute of Theology (AIT) visited Red Settlement in Guba with the participation of Milikh Yevdayev, President of the Religious Community of the Mountain Jews of Baku. During the visit, the delegation was informed about the history of settlement of Jews in the town, as well as the multicultural environment and tolerance traditions in the country.


The delegation further visited “Gilaki” and “Six-dome” synagogues. The visitors were informed that after the restoration of independence in Azerbaijan, as in the most parts of the country, the period of revival started in Red Settlement. The synagogues were restored in the settlement, and religious rites started to be performed in the sacred places again. The participants were informed about the Jewish Cultural Center in the Jewish synagogue in Red Settlement. During their extracurricular activities, students learn about the Jewish traditions here.


Pisah Isakov, the representative of the Executive Power in Guba district, and MilikhYevdayev, President of the Religious Community of the Mountain Jews of Baku, responded to the questions from students about the beliefs and religious rites in Judaism, experience of peaceful coexistence in the context of tolerance and multiculturalism in Azerbaijan.


AIT organizes consistent events for the improvement of students’ prospects, their intellectual level, spiritual world, patriotic feelings, social responsibility habits, as well as the development of individual self-expression skills. To that end, the Institute arranged visits to the synagogue of Jews of Europe and Georgia, the village mosque similar to Govhar Aga mosque in Shusha, The Albanian church in the Nij village of Gabala, Damirchi village mosque and Shamakhi Juma Mosque, one of the oldest religious centers in the Caucasus within the “Winter School” project in Shamakhi, as well as Sakina khanim, Juma, Ardabil and Haji Jafar mosques in Guba district.
