II International Symposium on Islamic Civilization in Caucasia will be held

The second International Symposium on Islamic Civilization in Caucasia will be held on July 11-12, 2019, jointly by Azerbaijan Institute of Theology, Research Center for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) and the Institute of Oriental Studies named after Z.M.Bunyadov of ANAS.

The symposium aims to study the history of the spread of Islamic civilization in the Caucasus from scientific point of view and investigate this relevant historical problem objectively. At the same time, it will contribute to the promotion of the national-cultural diversity and ethnic tolerance traditions of the country in the world.

It should be noted that the first International Symposium on Islamic Civilization in Caucasia was held on December 9-11,1998, by national leader Heydar Aliyev’s Order No. 755 dated February 22, 1998. National Leader Heydar Aliyev delivered a speech at the symposium emphasizing the importance of researching the contributions of the peoples to Islamic civilization in science, art, architecture, economics and other fields as well as the importance of studying and developing the role of Islam in the formation of national and spiritual values of the Azerbaijani people.

The II International symposium will be attended by Professor Saffet Kose, Rector of the Izmir Katip Chalabi University; Damir Muhetdinov, Rector of Moscow Islamic Institute; Daniyar Abdrahmanov, Rector of Bulgarian Islamic Academy; Rafik Muhametshin, Rector of Russian Islamic University; Professor Shuhrat Yovkochev, Rector of International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan and Dr. Majid Abdulaziz Al-Turki, President of the Center for Media and the Arab-Russian Studies in Moscow. Apart from this, scholars, researchers and experts working on Islamic Civilization in the Caucasus from the universitites of various countries such as Turkey, Russia, Georgia, Iran, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Moldova, USA, Australia, Egypt and Saudi Arabia will participate at the symposium with articles.

More than 100 lectures entitled “The influence of Islamic culture on religious and socio-cultural life in the Caucasus”, “The development of Islamic sciences in the Caucasus”, “Islamic architecture, art and literature in the Caucasus”, “Role of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the development of tolerance and multicultural traditions in Azerbaijan”, “The spread of Islam in the Caucasus”, “Multiculturalism in the Caucasus”, “Islamic Civilization in the Caucasus as a research area: methodological issues, historical sources, documents and artefacts, academic cooperation on the subject”, “Role of mosques, madrasas and khanates in religious education in the Caucasus”, “Islamic Policy of Tsarist Russia in the Caucasus”, “Role of Caucasian scientists in the development of exact, natural and human sciences in the Islamic world”.

The proceedings of the symposium will be published.
