Winter school continues

The second day of the winter school on Religion, Culture and Society-3 organized by Azerbaijan Institute of Theology(AIT) in Lankaran region continued with seminars and visits.

During the first half of the day, students attended an online meeting with Professor Saffet Köse, Rector of Izmir Katip elebi University, through the ZOOM platform. AIT rector Agil Shirinov, made an opening speech during the webinar and provided full information about the guest.

Then, discussing the question of “What exactly is theology?”, Professor Saffet Köse lectured on The Value of Theology emphasizing the importance and essence of religion, as well as the relevancee of teaching religion accurately and appropriately. He stressed that if religion is not conveyed to people from the right sources, it might lead to disaster. The professor also emphasized the significance of each of the Islamic sciences, noting the importance of studying these sciences through interdisciplinary techniques.

AIT rector thanked the guest for his thoughtful and informative address.

The project participants spent the afternoon in the Lankaran City Museum of History and Ethnography. Students were given extensive information about the museum. Students were informed that the Lankaran History and Ethnography Museum has been officially operating since 1924. In 1991, the Lankaran Museum of History and Ethnography was moved to the palace of Mir Ahmad Khan. This monument is the first multi-storey building in Lankaran. At present, 6610 exhibits are preserved in the museum. The exhibits in the museum showcase rich history, culture, and traditions of Lankaran.

Then the students visited the Khojaly Genocide Monument and paid tribute to the memory of the victims of the tragedy.

The students visiting the Kichik Bazar mosque were given detailed information about the historical and religious monument. Kichik Bazar mosque was built in 1906 in Lankaran.

The mosque has retained its former appearance and is now protected by the state. 250 people can pray here at the same time. It is said that although the mosque used to have a minaret, it was destroyed during the Soviet era. The minaret was restored after the Republic of Azerbaijan regained its independence.

The winter school aims to enrich students’ world outlook and familiarize them with the multicultural and tolerant environment, ethnic and religious diversity, peaceful coexistence of different peoples in our country.
