II International Symposium on Islamic Civilization in Caucasia continues with panel discussions

The 2nd International Symposium on Islamic Civilization in Caucasia continues with panel discussions.

The panel discussion on Islamic Policy of Tsarist Russia in the Caucasus was conducted by Professor George Sanikidze, Director of the Georgian Institute of Oriental Studies named after G. Sereteli and Associate Professor Elnura Azizova, Head of the Department of Religious Studies at Azerbaijan Institute of Theology.

The attendees delivered speeches on "Muslim community in the early 20th century and its reform plan in the Caucasus and Europe”; “Strategic plans of Tsarist Russia in the organization of Muslim clergy in Azerbaijan”; "Socio-psychological aspects of the religious policy of Tsarist Russia in North Azerbaijan"; "Anti-Islamic policy of Tsarist Russia directed at the assimilation of Azerbaijani Turks"; "Activities of Tsarist Russia concerning Muslims in the South Caucasus in 1801-1917 (based on archival materials)" and “The Situation of Islam in Azerbaijan in 19th and early 20th centuries”.

The second panel dedicated to The role of Caucasian scholars in the development of natural and human sciences in the Islamic world was conducted by PhD Ahmed Niyazov, Head of the Department of Islamic Studies at Azerbaijan Institute of Theology and Professor Mohammad Harb, Fellow from the Faculty of History at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.

Speakers discussed topics such as "Hasan Melik Zardabi's views on Islam"; " Azerbaijani representatives of the philosophical trend of transcendent theosophy”; "Role of Azerbaijan in the development of Islamic civilization"; " A new approach to the ideological, political and philosophical aspects of hurufism in the medieval Muslim East"; " Abdurreshid Ibrahim and the Azerbaijani press (1903-1905)"; " Mohammed Amin Sadraddin Shirvani and his moral philosophy "; " Women educators in the educational movement of Azerbaijan "; " Role of Caucasian scientists in the development of exact, natural and human sciences in the Islamic world " and "Azerbaijan as a part of Islamic philosophy".

More than 100 speakers delivered speeches at the symposium in 11 panels.

The materials of the symposium will be published in English and Russian along with the Azerbaijani language under the title of “Proceedings of II International Symposium on Islamic Civilization in Caucasia”.
