AIT head of department participates in international symposium

Ahmed Niyazov, Head of the Department of Islamic Studies of Azerbaijan Institute of Theology (AIT), participated in the online symposium on International Turkish Culture and Art in Ankara, Turkey. The symposium also demonstrated support for Azerbaijan’s just war with the performance of “Karabakh shikestesi”at the opening of the event.

Speaking on "The 19th century irfan movement in the Caucasus and its social contributions," A.Niyazov mentioned Ismail Sirajaddin Shirvani and the enlightenment movement that extended in the early 19th century.

The lecturer stressed that being the representative of the 19th century Irfan movement in the Caucasus, Ismail Sirajaddin Shirvani, taught the principles of perfect man, instilled in the public the traditions of coexistence such as enlightenment and unity.

A. Niyazov further noted that this movement implemented great public reforms in the region for a hundred years. Speaking about the results of the movement, the her said that science and irfan movement, rooted in the tradition of systematic education, has created some examples specific to the region. The greatest contribution to this is the fact that all social groups, despite their religious affiliation and sectarian diversity, benefit from the tradition of coexistence in a tolerant environment.
